Winners or Losers?? Tata Cucible Hyderabad Campus Edition 2008
Reply (from the organizers) to the below ‘query’ raised by me can be found by clicking here..
Dear All,
This message might come as a surprise to many.. An intolerant one to few… Why is Rohit being a pest , many would say!
The simple reason is that I believe the best team must always win.. But they must rightly be a team…
When I questioned Giri about allowing ICAI students before Crucible started, he said the Tatas take the call..
I wanna shed some light on Crucible qualifications before getting into the heart of my message..
Tata Crucible (in Bangalore for example) differentiates the teams from Christ College on the basis of BBM/ BCom and MBA.. This has been the case for a number of years.. No one has questioned it..
But this year, Crucible crosses the limit and lets 2 students affiliated to ICAI (institute of Chartered Accountants) participate as a team immaterial of which company they audit for.. maybe next year you could just let ppl with a correspondence degree from IGNOU also participate…
Well, if Tatas and the QM think its right, so be it… But what if the participants are not affiliated to ICAI (directly)
Now, I come to the main part of this message..
Tata Crucible Hyderabad 2008..
Winners- Anirudh Janak & Aditya N (for Aditya Nagarajan)
This team claims to be affiliated to ICAI..
A certain glance at the winner’s orkut profile gave me an insight to this team… or rather atleast one member..
Mr Aditya Nagarajan is the 3rd runners-up of BT-Acumen (South) 2007 representing BIM, Bangalore
Mr Aditya Nagarajan is the winner of Tata Crucible Hyderabad 2008 representing ICAI
Now, I know that you can write your foundation of ICAI and if you pass it you can have an ICAI certification, which you can use for future articleship. .
But is ICAI affiliation in a quiz like Tata Crucible allowed when a person is pursuing his full time MBA at a college like BIM ??
I also hear that Mr Anirudh Janak (who had even left a comment on my blog a few days back) represented Aurora College at the IPE Quiz recently conducted by Mr Deepak Karamungikar and finished 3rd.. Anirudh will also be representing Aurora College at the Tycoons ‘08 National final. For press report, click here
Inicidently, Anirudh & Aditya had represented Aurora College the last year(2007) at Tata Crucible Campus Hyderabad …
The rest is for you to ponder..
Provided below are links which have helped me dig this out…
You can peruse it.. And possibly come to your own conclusions. .
You might want to sideline this mail but just remember- MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN… ALWAYS!!

and in case these photos are deleted by the time you read it.. worry not, , mail me.. I have them on my desktop, laptop, Google & WordPress servers
Do mail me at Rohit.s.nair@gmail.com .. For i’d like to know wat the team deserves
I will make a compendium of all your replies and ‘Showcase’ it for our friends to enjoy for the rest of their life..
Cheers

Hi Rohit
You have put up a valid point.. yes if Tatas nQM thinks its ok gr8.. but participatin in different quizzes representing diff colleges is not the way to do it.. this way i think we can have a wordpress team also… or as u said a correspondence course may help the course.. anyways as u said “may the bes team win” in the proper way..!!!

Hi Rohit
This is shashank from Hyderabad . I participated in the crucible and lost out in the wild card round to anirudh and aditya .As far as their winning goes ……I’m not sure if teams could represent an institute like I CAI..if yes then its fair .Both anirudh and Aditya are doing their chartered accountancy . Anirudh is presently a student of Aurora college ..i can confirm that and aditya is an ex-student there .The quality of their quizzing skills was undoubtable and as you say the best team must always win ……they were by far the best team that day.I do not know either of them personally but my teammate bhargav is an avid quizzer and knows anirudh

Is 60k any compensation for people who are putting their honour and reputation at stake? And they have to be naive to think that they could get away with this. It was only a matter of time before someone pulled the lid. And I’m glad you did. For them, I have just one question, “Why?”
Sad. Very sad.

Dear Rohit
Am really glad you are bringing this to everyone’s notice. I think you have hit the nail on its head and am with you on all points you have raised.
I only hope, immediate steps are taken to curtail such incidents in the future. I also suggest you put a mail to the organisers in Tata; knowing the enterprise it is, they will definitely do something about it.
Keep enlightening us as always !
Happy Quizzing

Dear Rohit!
Though I am corporate, I am fully in support of your
perspective….Some Corporates do such nasty things, they gratify
themselves by winning the student’s events when they could not win any
real corporate event….
When the students themselves practice at such an younger age, I am not
sure of how Indian future corporate will turn up??
Cheers to life,

Hello Rohit
Really an issue to debate. I participated in TATA crucible here in hyd
and was surprised to see Anirudh representing ICAI . Coz last yr he
came representing Aurora Degree College to our cultural fest and
participated in the quizzes .
I seriously condemn this kind of foul plays and tricks to get through
the laws for winning sake.
And appreciating your efforts to enlighten such issues . Keep up the
spirit dude.

hi,
first of all i thank u for getting us to know of this serious mis-representation. this should be conveyed to quiz master and the organizers.
Even i was present in Bangalore edition of the quiz. Pickbrain might giv whatever reason but he shd hav verified the identities of the team-members

Hi Rohit,
Nice mail. Am glad that you were moved so much so that you went into details of the participants, and did all the research. I guess Pickbrain is a member of these groups, so somehow they would get the message. I hope that they act on it too.
Just an additional thought here:
If Tata Crucible on its site is described as “Tata Crucible for campuses across India was started in 2005. The quiz has emerged as a fantastic knowledge platform for the youth of the India.” How come ICAI was even allowed?
Does ICAI actually have a campus?
Or as you rightly put it, shouldn’t it then allow all correspondence courses as well?
Regards,
Nirav

Hi Rohit,
wonder if you shared this with the Tata Crucible QM and the quizzers involved? Would be interesting to know their response.

VERY GOOD RESEARCH INDEED
one of the audience gave feedback form with this info
but i dnt kno what action they had taken on them
here are some more facts about hyderabad round
another team from ICAI in final round is of srimathi n vishal gupta
srimathi is a studentof kasturbha gandhi womens college
so by no chance vishal gupta is a student of that college (as it is
womens’
aditya discontinued CA. and anirudh is from aurora degree college and
he is not a CA student.
ICFAI chennai team also participated in hyd round and to my surprise
it has a student satish who participated and entered in hyd final
round last year with meher as his partner. to the best of my
knowledge they represented IBS hyderabad last year and they are in
second year MBA at that time.

allright since i happen to be the only one with a disparate note in this symphony i have a letter to write and its adressed to rohit .By the way i am rohitash subramaniam an aurora passout.anyways i posted because i had an objection to rohit spoiling the integrity of this really fine piece of art called rohitnair.wordpress.com.Since rohit has clarified i would like to join this tirade againts corporate losers and impotent uncles.I would like to point out some facts as told by my quizzer friend in delhi.Last year a loser by the name of dr bhattacharya took part in campus crucible delhi.he was 38 years old and was enrolled in some shady institution this year the same guy took part in corporate crucible posing as an army guy(which is not believable since he has a beer belly and is obese).now what do you make of this. Its high time the organisers used some common sense and stopped allowing old jerkers in campus cruci.my suggestion balding people should not be allowed(no offence meant for people with genetic alopecia though).
kudos to rohit and i hope he writes more direct posts next time
cheers rohitash subramaniam
icai.
ps:the womens college incident was hillarious

Hi, I am Vivek from New Delhi. In the Tata Campus quiz last year (2007) also we had faced the same problem. We had another quiz on the day of the crucible quiz and one team actually participated in the Tata quiz as a student team and in the other quiz held in IMI as a corporate team since 2 corporate teams were allowed in that quiz. This on the same day, just imagine.
Since it is not possible to check the credentials of all the teams before the quiz the credentials of the winners should be checked after the quiz and if they are found unsatisfactory they should be disqualified.
Just writing this post to show that the problem is not limited to a few cities but is present in many cities.

To ‘rohitash subramaniam ‘ or anyone concerned,
I do not know too much about the Delhi and other circuits and corporates participating and that definitely is not my botheration. And if the entire world knows about it, why aren’t the people in charge taking action..
My post above deals only with a student having twin identity and that is all I’m concerned about.. If a person can represent 2 colleges in 2 televised quizzes, we can expect the same person to participate in 2 cities as 2 different colleges in the future.
This message is just to keep us within the concerned topic and not deviate into unchartered issues.
Cheers
Rohit

Hey there Rohit…
Kudos to your ‘research’ on this issue. This kinda illegitimate participation by corporates definitely dampen the spirits of the students from the non-corporate arena who wish to leave a mark on Biz-quiz scenario.
This kind of foul play can be curbed only if stringent action is taken by the organising commitees…
I hope the concerned authorities do take this report by you as an eye-opener!!
Some incidents of such disgraceful gimmicks mentioned above(Girl’s college one!!) are worth a laugh!!

You donated your entire Crucible winnings to College?? Hats off!! Cant believe it!
Making just too much money I guess..
But seriously man, great stuff!!
Believed it only after seeing your orkut album!!
Keep winning and make us all proud! I’m sure your college is already proud of you!!
Love,
Niyati..

Hi Rohit,
I am an on and off quizzer, and have participated in 2 to 3 major quizzes. Every time i turn up for a quiz, I know that the people around me are taking this seriously. Apart from the fun quotient, the free snacks - and the elusive women, quizzers want to win.
Then something like this happens. Really leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth. Especially for irregulars like me, who want everyone to be on the same footing { Read equally dumb}
Good on you for highlighting the issue.
