MINDSWEEP 2012

It is with pleasure that we announce the inaugural edition of KQA’s International Solo Championship, titled MindSweep.

We have confirmations from the United Kingdom and the United States, and a few more countries will probably participate.

Mindsweep will be held during the weekend comprising Saturday, 7 January and Sunday 8 January 2012.

The quiz will require participants to answer 200 questions–in two sessions of 60 minutes each with a 30 minute break between sessions for corrections. Please register in advance using the form on this page.

The quiz is split into 10 sections of 20 questions each and is set by Dibyendu Das, Kiran Vijayakumar and Arul Mani.

The third edition of Mega-Whats, KQA’s National Open Quizzing Championship will be held on December 11, 2011.

The quiz will be held across thirteen cities simultaneously. Apart from Bangalore, we have confirmations from Chennai, Guwahati, Goa, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Mysore, New Delhi, Pune, Thrissur, and Thiruvananthapuram.

Date: Sunday, 11 December 2011

General quiz, open to all.

Teams of FOUR members (or less).

Prior registration is essential.

To register, please use the form on this page.

Please provide the names of the four people who comprise your team; also indicate whether you are taking part in the school, college or open categories

Registrations will close on Tuesday 6th December 2011. City co-ordinators will allow entries after the cut-off date at their discretion.

Please note that the quizzing community in your city may charge an entry fee to meet venue and equipment hire expenses.

The school category is open only to teams comprising students from Std. VIII-X

School teams ( Std. VIII-X) are allowed free entry. A school may field ONE team.

Please report by 1430hrs at the venue in your city. Since we need to ensure a coordinated start nationwide, the quiz will start at 1500hrs sharp. The doors will be closed five minutes before we begin.

Contesting teams will answer in writing a quiz of six sections and about sixty questions, inclusive of audios, videos and visuals.

Answers and scores will be announced immediately after the event–prizes will be given out for Best School Team, Best College Team, and Best Open Team.

The prizes aren’t small–they are insignificant.

We will rank the top 100 teams across the country–this list will go up by the 25th of December.

The rankings will be announced after adjudication. The decision of the quiz-masters will be final and binding on all participants.

The city-winners will face off in June 2012 as part of the KQA 29th Anniversary.

NSIT Quizfest 2011

 

The NSIT Quiz Club is conducting the NSIT Quiz Fest 2011 in the auditorium of the NSIT Campus in Dwarka, NCR from 11-13 February, 2011. The Quiz Fest will comprise of 11 quizzes spread over three days. The details of the quizzes can be seen in the poster attached. 

Each main quiz prelims will be followed by a filler quiz while the main quiz finals follow the corresponding filler quiz. The quizzes on Sunday are open to all. The remaining quizzes are open to school/UG/PG Students only. 

The General Quiz comprises of 3-member teams, while all other quizzes are for 2 members. 

There will also be prizes for best school teams and best college teams even if they don’t qualify in the quizzes for college and open categories.

Obligatory Questions from NSIT Quiz Fest 2010

1. They first appeared in USA in 1919, made with muslin. The idea was introduced by Joseph Kreiger in San Francisco. They were initially intended for caterers, but later most were being brought for the home. They were introduced in Britain in 1952 & soon became an integral part of the British daily life. They have also been used as a variation of the moistening effect of placing cucumber slices over the eyes in attempts to stave off the inevitable effects of ageing. What?

2. The boyhood friendship between them was forged in 1951 as classmates in Wentworth Primary School in Dartford, Kent but got interrupted when both families moved in the mid-Fifties. While X was at London School of Economics and Y in Sidcup Art College, they happened to meet again in October 1960, when the two ran into each other at a train station. 
With mutual friend Dick Taylor, they formed the band Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys. This band eventually was renamed to ____.

3. In 1934, V.K. Krishna Menon, stood as the Labour Candidate to the Borough Council of St. Pancras, won and remained the Councillor for the next 14 years. In recognition of his services, he was conferred the Freeman of the Borough in 1955. The first person to be conferred the same was X. X’s play Y was Krishna Menon’s favourite, and he saw it no less that 25 times when it was staged in London.
When Krishna Menon was appointed High Commissioner, he often used to have supper parties  with guests such as Sybil Thorndyke and Wendy Heller, who had both played one of the main characters in stage productions of Y.

The K-Circle Sports & Entertainment Quiz will be held on November 13,
2010
at the Khemka Auditorium, Indian School of Business, Gachibowli –
Hyderabad.
