Tata Crucible Campus 2008- Updates

Some Crucible Updates

Format: Called ‘Nano Quizzing’.. This is just a branding exercise.. Nothing changes from the normal Pickbrain quizzes.. Same old bad connect questions follow some good dry questions.. Hoping to be present in a Giri quiz someday which does not have that Lateral connect round..

Steps to the Final 6

Top 4 institutes (which means only one team from every coll, even if two teams from same college get more than the ‘cut-off’) get a direct seat in the final. The next few teams (by score- immaterial of institute) will battle for the next 2 seats in the wild card round(s). This will be completely on the buzzer..

The final has 5 rounds.. Very short quiz (assuming due to telecast constraints) Just 24 questions..

Crossword Round– Is workable and has 6 questions ( not on the buzzer)

Tata World- World of Tatas ( 4 questions on the buzzer)

Domain Expertise– Choose your topic round has 6 questions ( Not on the buzzer)

Lateral Games– The bad Pickbrain connect round ( 4 Questions on the buzzer)

Nano Round– One word/phrase clue ( 4 questions on the buzzer)

    dear Rohit,
Great job indeed. But I wonder how do you manage to get all prelims questions from different parts of the country.

How can anyone like Giri’s Connects? Someday, he will show Roopa Ganguly or Roopa Purushottaman’s photograph in a connect and the answer would be Rupa Underwear & Banian. 😉

Hello everybody, This is in response to the above comment made by Shwetha Reddy. I have absolutely no intention of blaming you or anybody else in this fiasco, what has happened is really sad and goes against the spirit of quizzing. Both Aditya and I are registered members of ICAI and we have not indulged in any malpractice. We have won the quiz purely on the basis of our merit and it is very dissapointing to know that a fellow quizzer has irresponsibly accused us of cheating and labelling us as ‘corporates’ without verifying any details when some other team had actually indulged in malpractices. The Tata Group has already acknowleged receiving the letter from the chairman of ICAI testifying about us. I sincerely appeal to everybody that they dont jump to conclusions or believe rumours. Thankyou very much – Anirudh Janak

I attended Crucible Hyd. Request you to forward this review to the groups for the benefit of other cities as I dont have all group ids.

Hi. The quiz is very well balanced, nano quiz concept is cool and trendy. As always Pickbrain is great with his humour and fair play.

The wild card idea is very good so 16 teams get a chance and prizes. It also gives fair chance to more teams from the same college to qualify.

The Final is for 6 teams, this is crisp and truly requires speed.

    Rounds:
    Choice topics are good.
    Crossword is workable.
On Tata Round, it was news based and not history based so it did not seem so tough.
Connect was awesome, I think it takes the cake everytime.
Nano Games – Nice round with keywords that lead to an answer. Makes you think.

The scores are aptly called ‘Nano Meters’.

Fake team issue: I also heard all the news about fake teams. I even saw people complain to Pickbrain but he said as long as the id card and college letter is valid what can he do. He promised to ask someone to re-verify winner identity though.

It is very very sad that corporates are coming to campus shows when they have a seperate quiz for them. It is a shame on them.

Otherwise very enjoyable Crucible. Finally, Pickbrain looks cute in his new suites. Lastly, Audience prizes are really nice so worth attending.

    hi rohit
i would like to put in the info i got after attendin the mumbai round..
its not necessary that there will be 12 teams in the wild card round..that depends on the number of teams and the difference in the scores..in mumbai there was only one wild card round..and yes the Qs are on buzzer in this round..total of 8 Qs
