GE History:

I find my greatest pleasure, and so my reward, in the work that precedes what the world calls success.   Edison, Thomas A.

By the late1890’s Thomas Edison’s General Electric Company and Charles Coffin’s Thomas-Houston Company had both secured patents over several key technologies. As both businesses expanded, it had become increasingly difficult for either company to produce complete electrical installations relying solely on their own patents and technologies. In 1892, the two companies combined to form the General Electric Company.
